About the event
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: After completing the MFA program at Wichita State University, Michael Flechtner completed a six-week neon glass bending course and moved to southern California to continue making neon art. In his work, he plays with language, pop imagery, and rebuses. He creates artworks with a reverie for the craft of neon glass bending and the artists and craftsmen who came before him. In 2010, Flechtner was commissioned by the U.S.P.S. to design a “CELEBRATE” themed Forever stamp. It was first issued in 2011 and reissued in 2015. It was the first US stamp to use neon for the design.
