About the event
ABOUT THE Â SPEAKER: Â Currently the President at Magic Castle Enterprises, Erika Larsen is a Past President of the Academy of Magical Arts, whose clubhouse is the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. Founded in 1963 by her mother Irene Larsen, father Bill Larsen Jr., and uncle Milt Larsen, the Magic Castle remains the mecca of magic today, a private club which allows entrance only to members and their guests.
ABOUT THE  PRESENTATION: Erika Larsen, daughter of club founders Bill and Irene, practically grew up at the Magic Castle and knows the place like no one else. She is a third-generation magician (her daughter Liberty is a fourth), and a Hollywood history nut. The Story of the Magic Castle begins with her family’s legacy in the world of legerdemain and a dream of creating a home for magicians. The talk focuses on how the Castle has grown organically from a few rooms in an old Queen Anne to the premier destination it is today. The eclectic mansion has magically morphed and evolved over six decades thanks to Milt Larsen’s irrepressible imagination and his handy tool belt.  It is brought to life every night by magic practitioners. The community within the Castle walls holds its heart and has grown and shifted throughout the years, as has the art of magic itself. Join Erika on a journey through sixty years of incredible history, with its ups and its downs and all its wonderful whimsy and weirdness. Discover how a fun-loving, eccentric family of magicians managed to beat the odds and turn their penchant for merriment and love of magic into a surprising success. Viola! The ancient art of magic is alive and well and has taken up permanent residence in the Hollywood Hills. It reigns supreme in an iconic clubhouse that is home to magicians worldwide. This is the story of a dream of come true, conjured from thin air right before our very eyes. Do you believe in magic? Open Sesame!
