ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: Founded in 1976 as a media research program, Project Censored is now a nonprofit organization that advocates for free speech and media literacy in the United States. For close to half a century, the Project has worked to protect free speech and train professionals, students, and the general public to detect and resist media manipulation. It has long insisted that this dual approach—resisting censorship and teaching critical media literacy—is essential for a robust and functioning democracy.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Nolan Higdon is a founding member of the Critical Media Literacy Conference of the Americas, Project Censored National Judge, author, and lecturer at Merrill College and UC Santa Cruz.
