About the event

CELEBRATE THE 99th BIRTHDAY OF THE LOS ANGELES BREAKFAST CLUB! On March 6, 1925, a group of equestrians sat down for breakfast after a morning ride around Griffith Park... now, 99 years later, come celebrate with breakfast at the Shrine of Friendship!

And hear a very special presentation from LA Breakfast Club Historian Rachel Skytt, as she tells the story of the LA Breakfast Club Schism of 1934:

Ninety years ago, The Los Angeles Breakfast Club faced its greatest challenge. Threatened by foreclosure, LABC was forced to leave the original Riverside Drive clubhouse and began to meet temporarily at the Ambassador Hotel. However, a faction calling themselves the Original Breakfast Club continued to hold meetings at Riverside Drive. Both Breakfast Clubs met at the same time, both aired radio programs, and both clubs booked similar speakers and entertainers. Guests often didn’t know which Breakfast Club they were supposed to attend. Confusion reigned! Add to that lawsuits! Bankruptcy! Fighting over sawhorse custody!  Would the Los Angeles Breakfast Club survive?

We'll also be celebrating the memory of beloved member Richard Gilson. Wearing a novelty tie or bowtie in his honor is encouraged.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Rachel Skytt grew up in Solvang, California and is the great-granddaughter of two of the town's earliest Danish settlers. She received a BA in Dramatic Arts and History from UC Davis and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from USC. She joined the Los Angeles Breakfast Club in 2019 and serves on the Los Angeles Breakfast Club Board of Directors and is President of the Los Angeles Breakfast Club Foundation. She has been the club historian since 2022.
