About the event
ABOUT THE COLISEUM: Home to the USC football team since 1923, and a designated National Historic Landmark, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has the most diverse and all encompassing history of any stadium in the world. It has hosted two Super Bowls (I and VII), a World Series (1959), two Summer Olympics (Xth Olympiad in 1932 and XXIIIrd Olympiad in 1984) and soon a third: XXXIVth Olympiad in 2028.
Along with the adjacent Sports Arena, which closed its doors in 2016, the Coliseum is credited with helping to start the migration of professional sports teams to the West Coast. The complex provided a home for the Rams (1946-79, returning again in 2016), the Dodgers (1958-61), and the Lakers (1960-67), and has also been home to a variety of Southern California teams, including: the Raiders (1982-94), UCLA Football (1933-81), and the Clippers (1984-99).
The Coliseum has also welcomed legendary events, such as entertainer Evel Knievel (1973), a Papal Mass by Pope John Paul II (1987), Nelson Mandela’s “Crusade against Apartheid” (1990), and visits from several U.S. Presidents (FDR, JFK, and Reagan, to name a few).
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Marina Foté is the Assistant to the General Manager of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. She plays a part in every facet of the business, including administration, Public Relations, contract management, event management and operations, marketing, employee experience, and more! Prior to her time at the Coliseum, Marina worked with the Kansas City Royals and MLB's Office of the Commissioner, and currently also works part-time for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Marina is also currently working toward her M.S. degree in Public Relations Innovation, Strategy & Management at the University of Southern California. Marina’s interests include personal training, public speaking and tour guiding, health and wellness, and mentorship.
AND WE'RE HAVING A FOOD DRIVE!: Bring your non-perishable items and we'll donate them to GCC CARES -- the Glendale Community College Center for Assistance, Resources, and Educational Success.
GCC CARES was launched in 2020 to support the basic needs of Glendale Community College students. Basic needs and resource insecurities greatly impact a student’s mental health, physical health, productivity, academic performance, and overall educational achievement. The goal of GCC CARES is to provide direct assistance to students, connect them with critical on- and off-campus resources, and offer holistic educational opportunities that retain our students and lead them to complete their goals at GCC. GCC Cares is a recent grant recipient of The Los Angeles Breakfast Club Foundation.
