About the event
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: The Autry Museum of the American West recently opened its new long-term exhibition Imagined Wests. The gallery explores the many stories told about the West, both expected Westerns and unexpected stories rooted in the region. Here museum co-founder Gene Autry rubs shoulders with Moana, and Yosemite’s Half Dome shares a landscape with the Matterhorn roller coaster. Through miniatures, movies, art, fashion, and video games, this interactive and family-friendly exhibition expands our notion of the West. Curator Josh Garrett-Davis will describe the seven-year process of developing the exhibition, and will share behind-the-scenes images and stories of how it all came together to offer a new answer to the museum’s long-running question “What is a Western?”
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Josh Garrett-Davis is the Gamble Curator of Western History, Popular Culture, and Firearms at the Autry Museum. He is the author of What Is a Western? Region, Genre, Imagination (2019)…
