About the event

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: Compton Art & History Museum was always a dream of Abigail Lopez-Byrd’s. She held this within her heart for many years and that dream turned into a reality on February 18th 2023. The museum operates under the parent organization Color Compton, a youth-driven art and history non-profit, which she had founded with Marquell Byrd to engage with youth on the impact of BIPOC stories.

She'll share all about the organizations and her work to serve her community in Compton.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Abigail Lopez-Byrd is the founder and Executive Director of Color Compton, as well as an educator and visual artist originally from Compton. Abigail received her B.A. in Art from the University of California Santa Cruz. She also received her Master Degree from Columbia University and is currently a PhD student at the University of California, Riverside. Outside of being an educator, scholar, and artist, Abigail is a proud mother of three beautiful girls and continues to produce work exploring themes of identity, community, family, loss, grief, and forms of archiving.
