About the event

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: On March 12, 2023, Disney Legend and Imagineer Rolly Crump passed away. To honor his legacy, his son Chris Crump will present a history of Rolly’s work to The Los Angeles Breakfast Club. Most people know Rolly’s work at Disney, but what many may not know is the vast body of artwork he produced during his lifetime. Chris will share work from Rolly's book The Great Crump Presents His Magic, the definitive record of Rolly’s artwork and creative endeavors.

AND WE'LL BE INITIATING BOB GURR AS AN HONORARY MEMBER OF THE LABC: Disney Legend and Imagineer Bob Gurr developed more than 100 designs for attractions ranging from Autopia and Matterhorn Bobsleds to the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Monorails. He will attend and become an honorary member of The LABC during this meeting!

ABOUT ROLLY CRUMP: Rolly Crump was hired by Walt Disney Productions in 1952. He started out as an inbetweener on Peter Pan, then transitioned to assistant animator on Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, and 101 Dalmatians. In 1959, Walt Disney had Rolly transferred to WED Enterprises, where he worked on classic Disneyland attractions, like The Haunted Mansion, The Enchanted Tiki Room, and It’s a Small World for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. In 1970, Rolly left Disney to work on other projects, including Knott’s Bear-y Tales at Knott’s Berry Farm.

Rolly’s freelancing would continue, until he returned to Disney in the late seventies. During this time, Rolly most notably worked on EPCOT Center’s The Land pavilion. In 1996, Rolly retired from Disney Imagineering.  He was honored in 2004 with the Disney Legends Award and in 2009, he received his very own Window on Main Street in Disneyland.

ABOUT CHRIS CRUMP: Chris Crump started his career in 1973, working with his father, Rolly, as an apprentice carpenter for Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus World. In the late 1980s, Chris started his career at Walt Disney Imagineering, where he worked as a Production Designer and Executive until his retirement in 2016.

During his time as an Imagineer, Chris worked on The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure, and he was also part of the team which received the 2002 Thea Award for Best New Theme Park (Tokyo DisneySea) from the Themed Entertainment Association.
