About the event

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:  French by upbringing, Cuban and English by blood, and American by birth, Saskia Wilson-Brown obtained her BA at UC Berkeley, and her MA (Fine Art) at Central Saint Martins College in London. She went on to spend several years lifting heavy objects in the wee morning hours as an art department PA, before co-directing LA's short-lived but very cool Silver Lake Film Festival. After her one and only corporate job running international filmmaker outreach at Al Gore’s Current TV,  her interest in multivalent practices led her to create The Institute for Art and Olfaction (IAO) in 2012, a non-profit devoted to access and experimentation in perfumery and olfactory art. Through the IAO, she has launched projects with institutions such as Pulitzer Foundation, Getty Institute, Hammer Museum, Wallace Collection, and many more. In 2013, she launched the Art and Olfaction Awards, an international awards mechanism for independent perfumers, and in 2018 she launched Open Sourcing Smell Culture, an initiative devoted to open source principles in perfumery. In 2019/20 she served as a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art in London, and in 2020/22 she was invited as a Ballen Scholar at New Mexico Highlands University. Saskia's current projects include hosting a radio show and podcast called Perfume on the Radio for Lookout FM in Los Angeles, and pursuing a PhD at University College Dublin exploring the historic and contemporary relationship between perfume, access and power.

COVID-19 SAFETY:

- Surgical disposable face masks or medical-grade masks (i.e., KN95, KF94, N95) are strongly recommended when not eating or drinking, especially during the cold and flu season, and will be provided on request.

- The Los Angeles Breakfast Club requires proof of full vaccination, along with a government or education issued photo ID, upon arrival. Per the guidelines set by the CDC, full vaccination means that at least 14 days have passed since receiving the final dose of an FDA-authorized or WHO-listed COVID-19 vaccine. For anyone who is eligible, the LABC also requires attendees to have received booster shots. A one-month (30 day) grace period is given to those eligible but have not yet received booster shots. Booster shot eligibility is defined as:

  • People ages 12 years and older are recommended to receive one updated Pfizer or Moderna (bivalent) booster. This includes people who have received all primary series doses and people who have previously received one or more original (monovalent) boosters.

For more information, please see the CDC’s guidance on boosters: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/booster-shot.html.
