About the event

WELCOMING THE LABC'S NEW BOARD AND PRESIDENT: In addition to the presentation, join us as we install the new LABC Board of Directors and Officers, including the new President!

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION: The Marine Mammal Care Center is a non-profit hospital for marine animals that strand on the 70+ miles of beaches from Malibu to Seal Beach due to illness, injury, and malnutrition. MMCC has provided life-saving care for marine animals in need since 1992, with the goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back to their ocean home.

As the only year round marine animal hospital in Los Angeles County, MMCC is one of the busiest in the country, admitting on average over 350 patients per year.

As a partner in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Stranding Network, MMCC tracks population trends, evolves treatment protocols and standards, and develops best practices to deliver outstanding care to animals in need. They also collaborate with well-regarded scientists from around the country to conduct non-invasive research on our patient population and expand our knowledge base.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dave Bader serves as MMCC's Chief Operations and Education Officer. In this capacity, he helps support the general operations of MMCC as well as helps to design and manage MMCC's educational programming. Dave has a bachelor's degree in Marine Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a master's degree in Biology with an emphasis in educational media design from the University of California at Irvine. Dave also serves as the Media and Stakeholder Engagement Liaison for the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Integrated Conservation Planning for Cetaceans (ICPC) working group. With ICPC, Dave is working to support the conservation of marine mammals internationally with a focus on critically endangered species such as the vaquita porpoise.
